Danae Elon’s Circumcision Doc Wins Big at Tribeca

Israeli-born, New York-based filmmaker Danae Elon took home a top prize at the Tribeca Film Festival last night. Her documentary Partly Private won the award for Best Documentary in the New York Competition category.

Earlier this week Heeb sat down with Elon to discuss her film in an exclusive interview that can be read here.

Partly Private explores the religious, traditional and medical issues surrounding circumcision across several cultures. The documentary follows Elon as she travels to Israel, Turkey, Italy, England, Washington, DC and around New York City as she tries to decide whether to have the son she’s about to give birth to circumcised.

Elon was a member of the original Heeb 100 on the strength of her earlier film Another Road Home.

Other winners at Tribeca’s closing award ceremony included the stirring Iranian ensemble drama About Elly, which won Best Narrative Feature, and Racing Dreams, about a group of pre-teens competing for the national go-kart championship, which took home Best Documentary Feature.
