Battle of the Beards

In what seems to Jewdar to be the basis for what may be the most awesome sitcom ever, a group of Amish took a chasidic-sponsored tour of Crown Heights, allegedly for the purpose of developing ties between the two groups. While the similarities are there–beards, black clothes, quaint Germanic dialects and a firm belief in keepin’ it real–rain on the parade came from one realist among the first tourists from the Pennsylvania Dutch country, one Priscilla Lapp who noted that whatever similarities there were, the Amish’ savior was Jesus Christ. Had she known about her hosts’ feelings about a deceased Jew’s chances of coming back as the messiah, she might not have been so quick to answer.
