_Heeb_ Best of 5768: Film

Your calendar for 5769 may already be posted on your wall, but let’s not forget that 5768 wasn’t too shabby in its own right. In honor of the beginning of the Jewish new year, our editors once again gaze backwards to give you the best in arts and culture of the past lunar year. Below, check out the best films.

1. Iron Man

With cineplexes saturated with mediocre heroes who continually fail to rescue the audience from the doughy clutches of apathy, it was nice to be reminded what it’s like when a superhero is actually super. The terse, quick-witted script and well-choreographed set pieces (including two guys in robot suits doing battle in the sky) along with Robert Downey Jr.’s trash-talking, arms-dealing, cheeseburger-munching Tony Stark, made me want to strap bottle rockets to my feet and jump off a roof. Iron Man proves that a hero can have a dark side without being a black hole. Yes, I’m talking to you, Dark Knight.

OLIVER NOBLE

2. 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days

4. There Will Be Blood

5. Juno

6. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

7. The Orphanage

9. Son of Rambow

10. Surfwise
