Okay, I suppose we brought this on ourselves. Jewdar has long been a critic of the unfortunate tendency of some in the Jewish world (We’re looking at you, Maccabeats) to do tepid parodies of pop songs with some Jewish words thrown in, and call it music. All we asked for was a little originality. Well, looks like we got what we wished for, in the form of Hasidic Singing SensationTM Lipa Schmeltzer’s video for his new single, Hang Up the Phone. We’d try and describe it…but our excessively large vocabulary notwithstanding, words can’t really do it justice. Still, with Matisyahu and Y-Love having hung up their yarmulkes, and Shyne spending more time in yeshiva than the recording studio, who are we to be picky? Plus, we’re not ashamed (well, maybe a little ashamed) to admit that as befuddled as the Jewdars were watching this thing, when it was over, we found ourselves singing Hang Up the Phone.

Is it an attempt to sell some sort of new pads to the National Football League?
Why do most of these guys not seem to have decent Hasidishe beards, rather they look like the 4 day growth found on EuroTrash?

Mike, I’m with you on everything, especially the beard question. I presume they went to all the baal teshuva yeshivas they could and asked if anybody had any break dancing experience.
