Given his role as of the modern era’s greatest writers, it’s to be expected that Franz Kafka’s works would be adapted into a number of unexpected formats, from biting satirical comics to haunting childrens’ picture books. Perhaps then we shouldn’t too surprised to hear that soon we’ll be able to experience Kafka in that wholly modern form of storytelling – a video game:
So what, exactly, happens in a Kafka video game? From their press-kit:
The hero named K. gets a sudden offer of employment. And this event changes his life, forcing him to make a distant voyage. To his surprise, the world beyond his homeland appears to be not as normal as he would think. Together with the hero you will experience an atmosphere of absurdity, surrealism, and total uncertainty.
In other words: Life is meaningless and strange and all you can hope to do is get a high-score.
The game is scheduled for release sometime in 2014, and will be available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.
