This spring, as the world waited with with baited breath for the election of the new pope, more than a few Jews (as well as Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists, and yeah, some Catholics) found themselves scratching their heads, totally perplexed at the Vatican’s labyrinthine complexities. Understandable, considering it’s an institution with thousands of years of history, by-laws, and unique political standing among the nations of the worlds.
