The Economy for the Rest of Us

We’ve come to his rescue before, but WTF Salkin?

Heeb contributor, New York Times writer, Seinfeld exploiter and Lisa Loeb dumpee Allen Salkin has written an article, which is currently the most read on The New York Times website. In it, he details the difficulty of living in New York on a paltry $500,000 a year. According to Salkin, with all the nannies and private schools and private jets, these poor Wall Street execs who have had their salaries capped by mean ol’ Obama are really struggling. And while he acknowledges that most folks are not going to feel bad for these engineers of our current economic woes, according to Salkin, they need to understand that these poor, poor rich folks are used to the good life.

And also appearances must be kept up. Can you imagine the damage it might do to a financial institution if one of it’s execs had to take the subway to work? He would come into work all emasculated and fuck up his company so bad that the government would have to bail them out. Oh, wait, that already happened. To further alienate pretty much everyone that doesn’t live on the Upper East Side, Salkin closes with a quote from former New Jewish Times secretary Candace Bushnell:

“People inherently understand that if they are going to get ahead in whatever corporate culture they are involved in, they need to take on the appurtenances of what defines that culture,” she said. “So if you are in a culture where spending a lot of money is a sign of success, it’s like the same thing that goes back to high school peer pressure. It’s about fitting in.”

Hahahaha. Its about peer pressure, and about fitting in. Oh, that’s totally understandable, let me just pollute my britches with empathy for these fat fucking pigs. Damn you Salkin, and that horse named Bushnell that you rode in on. Now all the poor and out-of-work people hate you, and I know that because I read the comments on Gawker.

What do you think?
