Take That, Marat!

This has been a tricky week for relations between Russian and Jewish tennis fans. First, Anna Kournikova irately insisted upon her non-Jewishness and then Marat Safin talked smack about Israel. Before competing in the Davis Cup quarterfinals against Israel, Safin said Israel was "lucky" to have made it that far and only got there because Sweden was missing its best players when Israel beat them. We won’t make any predictions about Kournikova, but this story at least has a happy ending, since the Israeli doubles team of Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich smashed Safin and partner Igor Kunitsyn. Israel is now set to play Spain in the semi finals in September. Mazl Tov, Andy and Yoni (we hope you’re not offended), and good luck in September. Remember 1492!
