Murphy’s Law: Hasidic National Anthem Edition

The Scene: Coney Island’s MCU Park
The Event: A good-natured baseball game between the Flatbush Hatzolah and the NYPD.
The Song: Francis Scott Key’s “The Star Spangled Banner,” America’s national anthem.
The Outcome: Not so great…

Gothamist explains thusly:

…None of them know the lyrics, so the lead guy whips them out on his smartphone—this doesn’t help the backup singers who just try to follow the melody line with pleasant mumbles. Then halfway through, someone has to stop them to let them know the mic isn’t actually turned on.

Still, once they get their sea-legs, these mentschy minstrels belt out a pretty rousing “Star Spangled Banner.” So, hey – play ball!

No one bothered to tell “conductor” that the song is in three, not two!

Need we more proof that these people are not American when they have to look up the lyrics to our national anthem? I bet they know the national anthem for the State of Israel by heart.
