Monsey Can’t Buy Me Love

A grass-roots effort by a community of Orthodox Jews temporarily fended off a proposal from Wal-Mart to build a store in their town of Monsey, N.Y. The mega-retailer had been courting rabbis along with the general populace—even sending out fliers in Yiddish!—but met with firm opposition from community members, who apparently were concerned about exposing "their children to such unwelcome sights as bikinis and lingerie."

Perhaps Monsey has bigger problems. A quick Google search revealed a gentlemen’s club, "T & A’s," located within city limits, but it seems like the service there just isn’t what it used to be.

"This place has really gone down hill," writes one user on a message board dedicated to escort reviews. "Does anyone know what happened to the Hungarian girls that use to dance at the club?"

(And no, that’s not a translation from the original Yiddish.)

What do you think?

We didn’t get our rep for business sechel by thinking in the short term. Better you should pay the extra 50 cents a shirt and buy from your brother-in-law’s shmatte shop, because you know if Walmart puts him out of business, you’ll be the one who has to
