Lil Wayne Busted “Playing with Fire,” Bowling with Katie Couric

Lil Wayne is the latest artist to fall victim to lawyers for Abkco Music. The prolific rapper has pulled the song "Playing with Fire" from his smash album Tha Carter III in a settlement with the music publisher, which holds the rights to the early Rolling Stones catalog. Abkco had filed suit in July, claiming the track was derivative of the 1965 Stones hit "Play with Fire."

Abkco, who are no longer involved with managing the Stones, also famously sued The Verve over their hit single "Bitter Sweet Symphony." The Verve used a nearly unrecognizable sample of a symphonic version of the Stones song "The Last Time." They were forced to give full songwriting credit for "Symphony" to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and turn over all publishing royalties. "Bitter Sweet Symphony" was the band’s biggest hit, selling over a million copies as a single and showing up in commercials for Nike and a European carmaker.

In more Lil Wayne news (and there is always more Lil Wayne news), he’ll be appearing with Katie Couric as part of her "All Access Grammys Special" on Wednesday on CBS. “Music is another form of journalism to me," he tells Couric. "So I have to cover all the areas with my album. You get Lil Wayne’s take on the new president, Lil Wayne’s take on money, the economy, Lil Wayne’s take on women, Lil Wayne’s take on whatever.”
