Hamaswood

Move over Mumbai. Back off Beverly Hills. There’s a new competitor for the title of Film Capital of the World–Gaza City. Saturday saw the premier of Hamas’s first feature film, Emad Akel (billboard featured in background, above). Bearded men and veiled ladies walked down the red carpet for the action-packed thriller about a top Hamas operative, Emad Akel, who shot his well-deserved death scene in 1993. If all goes according to plan, the movie may only be the first. According to Fathi Hamed, Hamas’ interior minister, "It’s Hamaswood instead of Hollywood. We’re trying to make quality art that is Islamic and about the resistance without provocative [sexual] scenes."

Mel Gibson, can you smell the synergy?

What do you think?
