When last we heard from j.views (aka Jonathan Dagan), he was blowing our minds with his cover of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop”, played entirely on fresh produce. Now he has a new, equally innovative project in the works. Dagan wants you to take out your cell phone and record 10-20 seconds of the sounds you hear right now. Here, let him explain:
That email address, by the way, is: [email protected] (Be sure to include when and where your clip was taken!)
This, by the way, isn’t the first time the multifaceted producer has involved his fan base in the creative process. His 2011 release Rivers and Homes was funded like a CSA for music, with fans chipping in to help produce the album in exchange for a new track every month, as well as their picture on the packaging. The album cover was eventually nominated for a 2012 Grammy, and the stop motion video for the title track has 2000 photos held by 300 actual fans during his 2012 tour. Lately, j.viewz has been recording sounds from his computer onto a cassette tape and then feeding that back to the computer creating instantly nostalgic-sounding electronic music. As Jonathan said in a recent interview, “Sometimes you want to be simple and other times you want to be profound.”
So, send him your sounds: let’s see what happens.
