Why Just Suck the Blood When You Can Eat the Whole Shebang?

Certain chassidim have an interesting birth ritual of sucking the blood of a baby’s newly circumcised penis. But one tribe in Madagascar goes further, with the grandfather actually eating the foreskin.

So who are you to say that one group’s circumcision ritual is less appetizing than another’s?

Age shouldn’t be used as an excuse for ignorance, nor does humor cover msrepresentation.

The “custom” of creating suction to draw fresh blood towards the surgical site, thereby greatly decreasing the chance of infection, is ancient and in fact shows the great wisdom of those who knew many hundreds of years before the conventional medical world how to do surgery without infection. Mocking our heritage reflects poorly on you, not on them.
The fact that some Chassidim still do it may be over-the-top, but could be seen as a sign of fidelity to the old ways. They know that their children will identify as Jews.
