Don’t know if you’ve been following this story, but Continental Airlines flight attendant Sharon Brown says that the diva antics of Victoria Osteen (wife of Megapastor Joel Osteen) on a flight to Vail, CO in 2005, left her a mess. Brown is hoping that a Houston jury will believe that her hemorroid outbreak was caused by the stress of being slapped around by the holier-than-thou shiksa, seeking an apology and punitive damages that amount to 10 percent of Osteen’s worth.
This is no chump change: weekly sermons from their pulpit are broadcast internationally. The couple also shares royalties from Joel Osteen’s best-selling books. Their megachurch is a converted basketball stadium, where up to 42,000 congregants attend each week’s fire and brimstone hot topics.
Victoria Osteen, the co-pastor of Lakewood Church, allegedly became violently abusive when a small stain on her first-class seat wasn’t immediately wiped up by Brown. Ms. Osteen allegedly demanded that a white flight attendant serve her instead, grabbing Brown by the shoulders, elbowing her and pushing her out of the way.
The Federal Aviation Administration has already fined Osteen $3,000 for the incident. Opening arguments for the greatest trial of the year were heard last week and resume today in Houston.
