A Muslim Miss USA: Rima Fakih

As many are doubtlessly aware, top spot at the Miss USA pageant went to our Ishmaelite cousin, Rima Fakih, from Michigan. Jewdar, of course, wishes Ms. Fakih (or can we say “Miss” in this context?) nothing but the best during her reign, and figures that if the Jewish State could have an Arab Miss Israel over a decade ago, this hardly represents a blow to Zionism. Not all on the blogosphere agree however, and Debbie Schlussel et. al. are all atwitter over her family’s alleged ties to assorted Muslim terrorists, Jew-haters, and over-all nogoodniks.

Jewdar, of course, rejects visiting the sins of the father and assorted cousins on the daughter. But more to the point, at a time where many European countries are trying to ban veils and chadors as being inconsistent with Western culture, can’t we agree that Ms. Fakih should be an inspiration to Arab women everywhere?

What do you think?
