Hanukkah is many things: It’s a festival of lights; It’s a celebration of the Maccabean revolt against the Greeks; And, it’s an excuse to eat fried foods and jelly donuts.
So, what the hell is happening here?
For those of you who couldn’t make it through to the end of the video, it turns out that, despite appearances, Mark Feuerstein (star of USA’s Royal Pains) isn’t having a complete psychotic break from reality. He’s actually encouraging people to forego their usual Hanukkah gift-giving in favor of donating livestock to a village or community overseas through aid organization Heifer International. Now, far be it for me to suggest you deprive your friends and family of that geltfiend sweater they’ve been not-so-subtly hinting at as their Hanukkah gift-of-choice. But, for those of you looking to do a little international good with your Hanukkah presents, well, if a grown-ass man dressed as a cow, rapping the shema, doesn’t do it for you, I don’t know what will.
