Filmmaker Wendla Nölle brings her documentary The Chosen Ones to New York for a premiere screening tomorrow night. The debut film, which includes an interview with yours truly (sporting an unfortunate haircut which is so “Matthew Modine circa-1989”:http://www.lustgarten.org/LUS/Content/CDA/BODBiosDetail.jsp?NavId=1&OwnerId=0&ContentId=281), delves into the lives of local musicians as they mix their Jewish identities into their respective musical careers.
See the press release below with some additional editing just in case you’re really not into Matthew Modine.
The Chosen Ones
NYC PREMIERE!
This documentary looks at Jewish music today as diverse artists grapple with how to combine their beliefs, cultural backgrounds and individual voices into an expression of who they are. Featuring Rav Shmuel, Y-Love, Blue Fringe, Balkan Beat Box, and Jeremiah Lockwood & the Sway Machinery. Plus, a free Two Boots pizza and beer soiree after the screening that includes Q&A with the musicians and the Music Editor of Heeb Magazine Arye Dworken who is hot ever since he changed his hairstyle to incorporate some trendy angles but not like he’s going to Misshapes-trendy. It’s subtle, appropriate and poignant. Yes, a poignant hairstyle.
