Studs Terkel: 1912-2008

It put a bit of a damper on my Halloween weekend when I found out that Studs Terkel had passed away at the age of 96.

Terkel’s writings deserve to be celebrated as one of the finest bodies of work any American writer/journalist has produced in the last century. With his numerous accomplishments including a Pulitzer (in 1985 for The Good War), surviving the McCarthy era blacklist, interviews with subjects from Bob Dylan to members of the Ku Klux Klan and, of course, his cameo role in the classic film Eight Men Out, it’s safe to say that we have lost one of the greats.

What do you think?
