Spidey’s New Friendly Neighborhood: Broadway

The new musical Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark slung its web another step closer to Broadway, with producers announcing it would start previews in January at the Hilton Theater. The show will mark the Broadway debut of Bono and the Edge, who are writing the music and lyrics. Julie Taymor, winner of two Tony Awards for The Lion King, is directing.

Not surprisingly, the musical is rumored to be the most-expensive ever, with some industry insiders placing its budget around the $40 million mark.

No casting has been announced, but Evan Rachel Wood said in an Oscar red carpet interview that she was "definitely going to do" the show, presumably as love interest Mary Jane Watson, played by Kirsten Dunst in the film trilogy. Wood called the music, which is mostly complete, "incredible."

Bono and the Edge, meanwhile, have been a bit busy with their day job lately. U2’s latest album No Line on the Horizon comes out March 3.

Well, they did write a great song for a crappy Batman movie, “Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me.” The music video was a thousand times better than the film.

How come tons of children all over the world go hungry but Bono and Edge keep making horrible music? If Bono really wanted to save the world he would just fucking die already.
