With perpetually clogged sinuses and tendencies towards lactose intolerance, ice cream has never been the chosen treat of the chosen people. And by the looks of San Francisco Weekly‘s list of "The Ten Weirdest Ice Cream Flavors in Existence," the frozen treat isn’t getting any more Semite friendly with flavors like “candied bacon”, “cheeseburger” and “basashi ice” (which has chunks of raw horse meat in it. That can’t be kosher, right?).
However, there is one flavor that you can bring home to bubbe: Lox. The vanilla ice cream with bits of nova lox, cream cheese and salt is the creation of Max & Mina’s Homemade Ice Cream and Ices in Queens. I’ll definitely give this a shot, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this ice cream will result in another one of my favorite Jewish pastimes…indigestion.
Is it kosher certified?

Max and Mina’s is unquestionably kosher, and unquestionably awesome. It’s been a few years, but if you find yourself in that part of Queens, or have a car, it’s worth checking out, and be courageous.
