Letter From Long Beach

I am writing from the Jewlicious Festival in Long Beach, CA. The festival is overwhelmingly Jewey. Jew Jew Jew Jew Jew.

Truly, it is a bit strange seeing Reform and Liberal Yids in the same space as fundamentalist Messianic West Bank settler types. But that’s part of the festival’s “charm.” My survival strategy is to avoid discussing policies of the State of Israel.

In addition to a little of the riffraff seen at any Jewish festival, there are very talented musicians and comics.  An erected beer pong at the hotel apparently left security unimpressed, as did a couple of private parties that went a bit loud.  I am frequently reminded that medical marijuana is legal in California.

Anyhoo, the big-tent – all Jews are created equal – approach to Jewlicious produces a bit of a circus effect that may not be a by-product of their vision, but is rather, the binding ingredient.

What do you think?
