Jane’s Addiction have announced they’re releasing a box set titled A Cabinet of Curiosities this spring. The three CD, one DVD collection includes unreleased demos from as far back as 1986, live tracks, unedited music videos, concert footage and home movies of the band.
Jane’s dummer Stephen Perkins has spent two years digging through the band’s unreleased material to put together the collection. "We’re hoping to step it up into kind of a more ‘collector’s item’ sort of situation," he told Billboard magazine.
The box set, featuring 43 audio tracks and 11 songs on the DVD, will be packaged in a limited-edition wooden "curio cabinet" with mock-ups of early band fliers, ticket stubs and other memorobilia. Discs one and two are rare and unreleased tracks, with disc three a complete concert recording from the Hollywood Palladium in December 1990.
Rhino, who put out the set on April 21, will also be re-releasing Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual on 180-gram vinyl.
Jane’s is set to tour this year with original Lollapalooza line-up mates Nine Inch Nails. In preparation for the dates, the band played a gig last week at L.A.’s Echoplex, tickets for which were only available through the band’s mailing list. Pitchfork.tv is streaming footage of six songs from the set.
How cool is it that Eric Avery and Dave Navaro are back? And how cool is it that Trent Reznor is producing Jane’s new album?
