H&M Destroys Unsold Clothing, Eco-Jews to the Rescue

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that companies like H&M and Walmart routinely throw away unsold clothing, even going so far as to slash merchandise. Bags of ruined clothes were discovered at the 34th Street H&M (just blocks away from a clothing donation drop box), sparking outrage among all fashionable bargain hunters and — considering the tough economic times and rise in homelessness — pretty much anyone with a soul.

In an open letter to all fashion companies, the eco-conscious

entrepreneurs at Wearable Collections (full disclosure: the company’s co-owner Adam Baruchowitz is Heeb’s Director of Business) have offered to recycle all of the Swedish company’s discarded clothing. It seems the storied relationship between Jews and schmattas may be coming full circle: Jews, once the quintessential producers of clothing, now charged with the task of disposing it.
