Fun With Yiddish

Though the debate rages as to whether it contributed to the etymology of the phrase "tushy-shtupp," Yiddish, as far as I’ve been able to tell, is the funniest language out there. Thanks to blissful ignorance, and a deep, abiding xenophobia, I tend to find anything overdubbed hilarious, and that goes double for anything voiced-over in that silly gibberish my grandparents use when they don’t want me to know what they’re talking about. Enter the genius who decided (for educational purposes, they could make the case, I guess, if they don’t want to get sued) to overdub Seinfeld in Yiddish, specifically the episode with Tim Watley’s conversion to Judaism (for the jokes). The effect of the clip strangely exposes the rhythms and timing of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld’s writing as straight-up Jewish humor. Also, be sure to check out this old guy’s fantastic rendition of Amy Winehouse’s "Rehab" performed in our ancestral tongue.
