Diamond Days Fest: Day Four Recap

The fourth and final day of the “Diamond Days Fest”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=199409809fest featured live performances by “Fresh Kills,”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=2431077 “Livefastdie,”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=17323311 “Psychedelic Horseshit,”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=34716046 “Golden Triangle”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=164814470 and “Clean Teens,”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=125473241 and perhaps more importantly from the perspective of much of our audience, free barbeque. Over 500 people stopped by “Union Pool”:http://www.myspace.com/unionpool yesterday including Jared from the “Black Lips,”:http://www.vicerecords.com/blacklips.php Nick from the “Yeah Yeah Yeahs”:http://www.yeahyeahyeahs.com/ and Kip from “TV on the Radio.”:http://www.tvontheradio.com/

For those of you who live outside of New York and those unable to make it to any of the shows, the Diamond Days Fest was an unbelievable (albeit exhausting) four days and _Heeb_ hopes to be presenting more events like this one in other regions of the country. Owing to the inspiration and perspiration of just a few volunteers, we managed to: 1) put together a first class fest that showcased some of the best bands in Brooklyn today; 2) “send a message”:http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/44314-sunburned-hand-marissa-nadler-do-diamond-days-fest to the bloated and played-out “Siren Fest;”:http://www.villagevoice.com/siren/ and 3) raise a little loot for our friends at the “City Reliquary”:http://www.cityreliquary.org/ in the process.

When I look back and think about the first Diamond Days Fest, certain moments will stand out from the rest: the hasidic school bus we took to our “opening night pre-party”:http://www.heebmagazine.com/blog/view/240 at the Charleston; “Tournament’s”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=121034832 thunderous and jaw-dropping performance at Rock Star Bar; “Marissa Nadler’s”:http://www.marissanadler.com/ exquisite cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Famous Blue Raincoat” on Friday night; “These Are Powers”:http://www.myspace.com/thesearepowers turning the basement of a church into a fiery pit of hell; _Heeb_ conspirator Aaron Genuth (above) showing Akwetey from “Dragons of Zynth”:http://www.myspace.com/dragonsofzynth how to wrap tefillin at Union Pool; and most of all, the spontaneous drum circle led by “Sunburned Hand of the Man”:http://www.myspace.com/sunburnedhandoftheman when we got shut down on “Saturday night.”:http://www.heebmagazine.com/blog/view/251
