The Beastie Boys will be putting their roots down at Bonnaroo this year along with two shows from the recently reunited Phish. Bruce Springsteen and Nine Inch Nails also nabbed prominent slots at the fest, which just announced its 2009 lineup.
More than 120 acts are expected to play in Manchester, TN from June 11-14, including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Wilco, David Byrne, MGMT and The Decemberists, who will be playing their new album The Hazards of Love in its entirety at SXSW in March.
Bonnaroo started in 2002 as a festival featuring mostly jam bands. The event began to expand its focus with the surprise booking of Radiohead as headliner in 2006, and by last year included acts like Metallica, Pearl Jam and Kanye West. While the goo ball crowd mourns the change, the event now competes more directly with Coachella and the revamped Lollapalooza on the emerging North American music festival scene.
