Forget Wonder Woman and her whorish crime fighting bustier. This fall birka-wearing Batina the Hidden is hitting the British airwaves in The 99 and she has no time for S&M truth lassos and lascivious twirls. Batina along with 98 other Muslim superheroes, each named after one of Allah’s 99 attributes, are sweeping the globe to serve as positive Muslim role models and fight the negative messages of jihadists. Will The 99 save any Jews in one of their harrowing adventures or would that go against being a positive Muslim role model? Guess I’ll have to watch the show to find out, but we all know that’s not going to happen. For one, I live in New York and two, I like my superheroes slutty and flawed.
I wonder if it will appeal to Muslim kids. Usually comics (or any art) that has an element propaganda (good or bad) aren’t very good or have any mass appeal.
Birka? She wears a Viking trading center, or a mispronounced Hebrew prayer? Surely she should be wearing a burqa to be a proper Muslim woman
