You may remember him as the alleged source behind the Sarah Palin/Africa leak. He revealed himself as a McCain policy advisor, and few in the blogosphere/mainstream media questioned his legtimacy.
Turns out, however, that the dude is not real. "Martin Eisentstadt" is the brainchild of two prankster-filmmakers, Dan Mirvish and Eitan Gorlin. For about a year now, they’ve been offering up disclosed (fake) information about the McCain campaign under the guise of Martin Eisenstadt in order to help pitch a tv show based on the character.
As a platform, Eisenstadt used his blog, which was sporadically updated, and Mirvish and Gorlin created a fake website for the Harding Institute where Eisenstadt is a senior fellow. Even more elaborate, they produced a BBC documentary on Eisenstadt called "The Last Republican," which is posted on YouTube.
So why the name Martin Eisenstadt?
According to Gorlin, "All the necons in the Bush administration had Jewish last names and Christian first names."
