Urban Kvetch: Middle-Aged Men Obsessed with the TED Conference

From everything I can ascertain, TED is a meeting place for many of the most provocative and prophetic voices in America today. But that’s not my problem. My problem is with these pretentious, out-of-work, Business 2.0-tweeting cool dad-types who think that attending some once-a-year conference in Monterrey is more important than dragging your ass out of bed at 7 a.m, sitting a cubicle and earning a paycheck without worrying about doing dereliction to a social revolution that’s just two cappuccinos and one manifesto away. Here’s an innovative thought: Skip TED and go to Cancun this year like your parents did. Then come home and join the unenlightened masses. Your kids may end up being able to afford college as a result.
