Palestinian protesters at the West Bank town of Bil’in are dressing up as those oppressed Na’vi from Avatar as part of their weekly demonstrations. Palestinians say this barrier is part of a land grab while Israelis claim it’s necessary for security, but forget all that. Just check out these guys dressed up like the Na’vi! They even have loincloths and the pointy ears! Palestinians have been staging protests over this barrier for over five years, so the costumes and the analogy are a smart way to liven things up. Regardless of your politics, it looks adorable. Well, until the rocks and tear gas start flying.
Blue paint aside, does it seem a little bizarre how calm everyone acts in this video? Both soldiers and protesters alike? They’re just hanging out, tossing canisters back and forth, y’know? Good times. If no one gets shot or blown up, I guess it’s not considered that bad. Though there has been terrible violence at this protest over the years, everyone here seems like they’re going though the motions. Not to sound too insensitive, but this almost feels like the Israeli-Palestinian version of playing catch.
