Soupy Sales: Elder of Zion

Soupy Sales, who passed away last week, was a quick-witted comedian, a counter-culture satirist and a pie-tossing showman. He took me to lunch at the Friars Club back in 2003, where we drank bloody marys and discussed the death of old-school Jewish humor. He was as kind and gentle man as I had ever met. So, when David Deutsch and I were writing The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies, we could think of no one more absurd to portray commandeering the age-old notorious Elders of Zion conspiracy than Mr. Sales. I guess it was the closest I ever got to throwing a pie in his face.
