Something Smells Fishy

In a thousand years, will Heeb be remembered for its delightful prose or tasty roe? Yes, it seems that "Heeb," the sandwich, may be surpassing Heeb, the magazine, as a cultural touchstone. Last month, Russ & Daughters’ bagel with whitefish salad, wasabi-flavored roe and horseradish cream cheese was named one of New York City’s best dishes by Time Out, New York. And this week, it was featured in PBS’ six-hour documentary, The Jewish Americans. Despite granting its producers a lengthly interview, Heeb Magazine receives scant mention in the doc. Geez, who do you have to schmear in this town?

What do you think?
