Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro may be appearing as the Three Stooges in an upcoming Farrelly Brothers pic. Variety reports that MGM has signed Penn to play Larry, with negotiations under way for Carrey as Curly and Del Toro targeted for Moe. That would make seven Oscar nominations and three victories for the prospective Stooges, not to mention four Golden Globe wins. Not too shabby for a trio of slapstick vaudevillians.
Production on The Three Stooges, which the Farrellys are writing and directing, is set to begin this fall, with an intended 2010 release. The movie is not a biopic, but will feature the Stooges nyuking it up in character.
