Israel and Lebanon at War Over Delicious, Creamy Substance

Israel and Lebanon are at war again, but this time it’s over food. Residents of Abu Gosh, an Arab-Israeli village near Jerusalem will be challenging the world record for largest dish of hummus ever made. The current Guinness Record was set in October 2009, when 300 Lebanese chefs concocted a plate of mashed chick peas weighing over 4,500 pounds.

Officials from the Guinness Book will visit the quiet village this weekend to determine if the estimated 9,000 pound plate of hummus — expected to take 400 volunteers about six hours — breaks the record. Juwdat Ibrahim, founder of Israel’s most famous hummus restaurant, is spearheading the colossal feat. He estimates it will take 10,000 pitas to consume the mixture. It’s good to have a hobby.
