Is Rahm Emanuel Going Rogue?

Official fall guy for the health care debacle, Rahm Emanuel, like the Jewish state, may be fighting recent criticism with a PR offensive, and he might even be throwing some colleagues under the bus.

After hardcore attacks in The Daily Beast and The Financial Times, a sucker punch from Sarah Palin and a bipartisan request to the attorney general for an investigation, the country’s (arguably) most important Jewish political figure appears to be hitting back. Politico suspects he’s been leaking his side to the press — a giant no-no for a team player.

Sunday’s Washington Post profile of Emanuel actually begins with "Let us now praise Rahm Emanuel." Dana Milbank’s thousand-word love letter paints the chief of staff as the only pragmatist in a group of idealistic dreamers, including Valerie Jarrett, Robert Gibbs, David Axelrod and even the president himself. All of the administrations embarrassments — promising to close Guantanamo, plans to try Kahlid Sheik Mohammed in New York and, especially, health care — could have been avoided if Obama only listened to his chief of staff, Milbank writes.

"Obama’s greatest mistake was failing to listen to Emanuel on health care."

Though Milbank flat-out denies Emanuel was a source for the piece, critics are calling bullshit. TheWashingtonNote.com‘s Steve Clemon’s wrote that "Milbank’s column seems to channel Rahm directly." Meanwhile, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough speculated freely: "It appears that Rahm has become quite promiscuous in telling anybody who will listen to him about how he tried to coach the president."

As unlikely as it sounds, is it possible Emanuel’s pulling a Palin? Scarborough probably holds a grudge — he got into serious trouble by quoting Emanuel’s blue language on-air — but he does make one good point: It’s Emanuel’s job to "serve the president and keep his mouth shut."

Please, Rahm, say you’re still Obama’s loyal guy. Nobody likes a sneaky, backstabbing bitch who’s only out for his or her own personal gain.
