Introducing GameJew

If you like video games and matzoh brei as much as Jonathan Mann (above right) you’ll also probably get a kick out of his website, “_GameJew_”:www.gamejew.com. Last year, the Los Angeles-based, 25-year-old launched the site, where you can catch him in his Mario Bros. outfit cocking around with a six-string guitar. He’s up to 10 episodes now, including the first act of “Mario Opera”, the remainder of which available on “iTunes”:www.itunes.com.

At first glance, you could easily mistake his site for podcast trash, but Mann says there’s more to it than just web quirk.

“At its heart, GameJew is a show about what gamer culture is and what will become,” he told _Heeb_, “meaning, games becoming accepted as a serious social medium.”

I’m not sure if a man clad in nothing but red overalls and a stupid hat is the one to elevate the social status of the gaming world, but Mann certainly thinks so–and apparently, so do others. This fall he’ll be in Vienna, Austria, for an artist’s residency at the “Museum Quartier”:http://www.mqw.at/news.en.html. Until then, you can catch more of his shtick (under the name “The Mushroom Singdom”) at “_www.gamevideos.com_”:www.gamevideos.com.
