Alexander the (Not) Great

The fast-paced world of new media often leads eager beaver online journalistos to write hastily in order to beat the competition. Sometimes, though, it’s good to take a moment for consideration. When Jewdar first read that Seinfeld alum Jason Alexander was joining the ranks of Kirstie Allie and Valerie Bertinelli (above, with Alexander) as a Jenny Craig weight loss spokesmodel, we had all manner of mockery coming to mind. Our first thought was that this was quite the step down for a guy nominated for an Emmy seven years in a row, and we would have traced his decline through the various failed post-Seinfeld sitcoms in which he was called upon to play various versions of George Costanza. But as we contemplated Listen Upand Bob Patterson, it dawned on us that if anything, being a weight-loss flak was a step up for Jason. We wish him the best of luck, even as we fear that at some point, the director of a Jenny Craig commercial will tell him "Loved what you did there, Jason, but do you think next time you could say it a little more like George?"

What do you think?
