The alarm clock goes off in the Lincoln Bedroom. Movers are barking at one other in the next room, a reminder that it’s the morning of January 20, 2009, and your ï¬nal hours as President of the United States are approaching. Â
The past eight years haven’t been easy. There have been hurricanes, scandals and terrorists and you’re ready for some much needed R & R back at the ranch in Crawford, Texas. Tonight, Air Force One will hit the landing strip at Fort Hood and a Lone Star State cavalcade will escort you to those luscious 1,600 acres of yours. No more itchy white collars, no more hard questions at press conferences, no more nasty documentaries from overweight iconoclasts.
But ï¬rst, you’ll have one more day of big decision making on how to use these last precious moments for the good of the country, to leave the world a better place for all those who will come after you and to shape your legacy as the leader of the free world. Do you: heed the call of history. . .or sleep another 10 minutes?
Hit snooze and pull the duvet over your head.
