Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak (Roc-A-Fella Records) Let’s try to forget for a second that the Internet hates Kanye West because he hates white teenage girls (specifically the ones that write ambiguous pop-country mush). While the self-anointed "Louis Vuitton Don" didn’t necessarily release the best album on this list, he did, however, release the bravest one. Despite the increasing popularity of the "no homo" refrain in hip-hop today, West did the gayest thing ever: he released a forty-six minute therapy session which focused solely on his feelings. And he did it not by rapping, but by singing.
After going through a tumultuous break-up with Alexis Phifer, West confirmed by way of AutoTune that even celebrities put on sweatpants, open up a carton of Ben & Jerry’s and cry. This experimental and expressive record hit the airwaves like the rap equivalent of Radiohead’s Kid A nonplussed with commercial aspirations or derision from his fanbase. However, the most impressive moment comes during the hit "Welcome To Heartbreak" when the sharp dressed performer even expresses his desire to have children.
