Reimagining The Coen Brothers’ slacker classic “The Big Lebowski” seems to be all the rage these days: From one-minute run-throughs to retro video-game versions. Perhaps, then, it shouldn’t come as all that big of a shock to discover that someone used computer generated wizardry to transpose The Dude, Walter, and Donny into an animated kung fu fiasco. True(ish) to their cinematic source, our heroic triune (well, Walter, mostly. The Dude just sort of…abides) battle Jesus Quintana, flanked by nihilist ninjas, all to techno tune of The Prodigy’s “Invaders Must Die.”
Yeah, it’s weird. But, you know what? It’s also pretty damn good:
According to its description, the video was done by second-year animation and CG art students at The Animation Workshop/VIA UC in Viborg, Denmark – admittedly, not someplace I’d expect to churn out an utterly charming riff on Lebowski. And, according to Neatorama.com: “the students are hoping to turn it into a longer film in the near future“.
How proud we are of all of them.
