Did you catch last night’s The Tonight Show? Of course you didn’t, because who the hell under the age of “Triassic” watches Leno, anyways? Well, what you missed was five minutes of brand new material from (arguably) the greatest living stand up comedian.
With a simple “well, let’s get to it, alright?” Jerry Seinfeld dropped five minutes of new jokes on an unsuspecting audience. It’s classic Seinfeld – picking apart the minutia of everyday life with equal parts disbelief, indignation, and glee. And, while it may not be his funniest work, there’s something oddly comforting about hearing that familiar nasal whine; It’s like an old friend we forgot we hadn’t heard from in a while. And, like an old friend, it’s good to have him back.

I am a huge fan of Jerry, and have been for decades. The first joke sounded just like a Jim Gaffigan joke, and the other food related humor has been covered by so many others, albeit Jerry does it in his own way. It’s hard to write comedy.
It’s hard to understand how such a comic genius could become so not funny.
