Is Israel’s Air Supply Boast Proof of Cultural Boycott’s Strength?

In perhaps one of the sadder examples of how the cultural boycott against Israel is having success, the Jewish state has been reduced to bragging that the ’80s shlock band Air Supply is coming to visit.

YNET reports,

Veteran Australian soft rock duo Air Supply will arrive in Israel in September for a series of concerts, following the success of its previous visit to the Holy Land three years ago.

But is Air Supply the best that Israel can draw these days?

Sure, many famous musicians played there recently, and the band Napam Death said fuck ’em back in June, but even the iconic Jello Biafra reluctantly buckled to BDS just prior to his July-scheduled gig.

Maybe I’m overreacting, maybe nothing has changed, but when Israel (or anyone, really) is bragging about Air Supply, it’s hard not to be concerned.

The band, consisting of Graham Russell as guitarist and singer-songwriter and Russell Hitchcock as lead vocalist, began its career in 1975 and is still recording and performing across the world to this very day.

Wow. To this very day, huh?

What do you think?

I think you should go to an Air Supply concert and then you would know how great their shows are and how honored Israel should be to have them.

I once stopped dating a girl immediately after she told me that air supply was her favorite band. We’re fucked.

Great, first there is limited land to build on, then we have to be concerned about drinking water levels, and now Air Supply is being brought in from overseas!

You have obviously never seen an Air Supply concert. Maybe you and other “journalists” should actually see a show before you put media labels on the band. Also, last I checked 36 years in a business with “artists” that are immediately here and forgotten about, in a volatile business, is nothing short of amazing. Say what you will, but perhaps you should embrace them and welcome them to Israel, perhaps give them props where it’s due. Also, again, go to a show. That way you will be informed, and maybe you can give your audience an informed article, instead of an uninformed opinion, that has no foundation.

Maybe we should end the occupation and treat the Arabs as equals? Hmm. What do you think? Crazy idea, right?
