Chabon and Waldman Pit Magicians Against Hitler

We get a lot of Nazi news popping up in our inboxes around here, but this one may just take the cake:

Scribe Michael Chabon and his wife, author Ayelet Waldman, have set up an offbeat drama project at HBO that revolves around a motley group of conmen and magicians who use their skills at deception to battle Hitler and his forces during WWII.

The project, for now, is called “Hobgoblin” and we shouldn’t get our hopes up too high at this news. Announcements like these come and go (I’m still waiting on that AMC series based on David Glen Gold’s Carter Beats the Devil that was similarly “announced” a few years back).

McSweeneys-toting bibliophiles can still rest assured that Chabon is not resting on his laurels these days. The acclaimed author and his acclaimed author wife appear to be taking the most daring aspects of his Pulitzer winning tome, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay, and spinning it into “Hobgoblin”.

That book chronicled a young magician’s daring escape from the ravages of WWII. Imagine if Joe Kavalier had stayed in Europe to battle the Führer himself instead of scuttling off the New York to become a comic book legend. This series can’t go into production soon enough.
