Javier Bardem traded barbs with Penelope Cruz in a Woody Allen film and Cruz got herself an Oscar out of it. Now Antonio Banderas is set to be the next Spanish actor to join a Woody ensemble.
The still-untitled movie starts filming this summer in London. Already rounding out the okay-looking cast are Naomi Watts, Freida Pinto (a.k.a. that hot chick from Slumdog), Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins. The film is due to be released in 2010.
Woody’s next picture to hit theaters, though, is Whatever Works, coming in June from Sony Picture Classics. The film features Seinfeld co-creator/Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David along with Evan Rachel Wood. After three straight movies set in London and a fourth in Barcelona, Works marks the writer/director’s return to his home turf of New York City.
Cruz’s Best Supporting Actress award for Vicky Cristina Barcelona marked the first time a Spanish actress has won an Oscar. Bardem became the first Spanish actor to win one the year before, with his prize for No Country for Old Men.
