Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans were horrified when supervillian Warren shot lesbian witch Tara, but that violent murder made for a surprisingly happy ending. Adam Busch and Amber Benson, the actors who played those roles, have been dating ever since. Both made 2009’s Heeb 100 — Busch for "Film/TV" and Benson for "Books" — and now this Jewish super-couple presents their newest sci-fi creation: the independent film Drones, an office comedy with an extraterrestrial twist.
We asked Busch five questions ("Six would be too much," he quipped) about his girl, new film and hopes for an alien attack. In just over a hundred words, he gracefully deflects our intrusive relationship queries and somehow compares leaving work to exiting a space shuttle (while having an orgasm). Which is scarier to you? An alien invasion or a 9-to-5 office job?
I look forward to the earth’s eventual invasion. This is no scenario in which I look forward to a job in an office.
The Drones trailer is hysterical but makes me feel funny about going to work tomorrow. You’ve been acting since you were a teenager. How is it you have so much empathy for us office schmucks?
I’m fascinated by what happens to people when they spend too much time together. In any work environment. Private jokes and nicknames pop up and no one knows who started it or why they’re saying it. Have you ever seen the look on a person’s face after they exit a submarine or a space shuttle after a long trip? That mix of disbelief, relief and orgasm? This movie is about what causes that look.
