_Heeb_ at SXSW (Departure)

Off to “SXSW for our showcase at the Habana Calle Annex”:http://2007.sxsw.com/music/showcases/club/Habana%20Calle%206%20Annex.html on Saturday night. After fortuitously being bumped to first class (LeTigre was on our flight in coach!) and downing two screwdrivers before take-off, I read Tricia Romano’s _Village Voice_ cover story on indie rock svengalista “Ultragrrrl (aka Sarah Lewitinn)”:http://www.villagevoice.com/music/0711,romano,76043,22.html. A couple of years ago, we were introduced to Ultragrrrl, then an intern at _Spin_, through mutual friend “Brian Battjer”:http://www.ikeepadiary.com/ and when we photographed her for our who’s who of Jews later that year she showed up at _Heeb_ HQ in a tutu. Romano calls her “the most controversial figure in New York’s music scene,” which might say a whole lot less about Ultragrrrl than the arid state of affairs downtown. Nevertheless, we get a kick out of a chick sporting smeared eyeliner, a Smiths t-shirt and a kabbalah bracelet.

What do you think?
