Lest anyone think that septuagenarian rapist and fugitive Roman Polanski is bearing his cross (i.e., his long overdue arrest) alone, fear not–dozens of Tinseltown supporters of rape, including fellow ephebophile (look it up and don’t hate me for my vocabulary) Woody Allen, have come to his defense in a petition, which should provide ammunition for the Christian Coalition in their battle against Hollywood for decades to come. In the petition (which, in all fairness, only includes one signature from a decrepit Jewish degenerate and is mostly made up of gentile degenerates of varying degrees of decrepitude, none of whom have had sex with their teenage stepdaughters), the assorted important artists express their outrage and dismay at his arrest, on what they called a "case of morals" (apparently, drugging and raping a 13-year old girl is simply a moral, not a criminal issue).

The Christian Coalition will not be alone in finding this document a veritable treasure trove of glitterati grotesquerie, and Jewdar will be happy to point out a few choice bits. This arrest was particularly offensive to the signatories because it took place as the Oscar-winning rapist was on his way to attend a film festival. Apparently, film festivals should provide a special protection for rapists, since they have historically served as places where artists can show their work "freely and safely." We also like the line about how his extradition might result in "serious consequences" for the talented sex criminal. Well, duh. That’s kind of the point. We also like the standard line that Samantha Geimer’s rape was just a "youthful indiscretion." At the time, Polanski was in his mid 40′s, which, leaving aside the description of rape as "indiscretion," is a couple of decades shy of "youthful," even if Polanski lives to be 120.

What really stands out forJewdar, however, is the way in which his defenders act as if the amount of time passed is some sort of mitigating circumstance, that it’s unfair to penalize him for something he did 30 plus years ago. This is virtually a textbook definition of chutzpah–flee the country to avoid serving your sentence, and then cry that it’s unfair to arrest you because you should have served your sentence decades ago.
